The goat, emblem of AKERBELTZ, was chosen by François IRAOLA to symbolize his beer brand. It represents a character from Basque mythology, from our oldest cultural heritage, when supernatural powers were attributed to imaginary beings.
AKER or AKERBELTZ is a pagan deity resembling a goat, capable of commanding a crowd of genies and triggering storms. The goat was associated with notions of power and protection over livestock. In many houses, a black goat (AKERBELTZ) is still kept to ensure protection over the agricultural world.
