The Oosterscheldekering is a large storm surge barrier located in the Netherlands, in the province of Zeeland. It is part of the Delta Works project, a massive engineering effort to protect the low-lying Netherlands from flooding. The Oosterscheldekering was completed in 1986 and is one of the largest storm surge barriers in the world. It is designed to protect the region from the North Sea during storm surges and high tides, while also allowing the natural tidal flow and marine life to continue in the Eastern Scheldt estuary. The barrier is made up of several large steel gates that can be opened or closed depending on the water level and weather conditions. It is also a popular tourist attraction, with visitors able to take guided tours and learn more about the engineering and environmental aspects of the project.
