Paro International Airport is the only international airport in Bhutan, a small landlocked country in South Asia. Located in the Paro Valley at an elevation of 2,235 meters (7,333 feet), the airport is surrounded by steep mountains and offers stunning views of the Himalayas.
Paro Airport is known for its challenging approach and landing, as the runway is situated in a narrow valley and pilots must navigate difficult terrain and unpredictable weather conditions. As a result, only a handful of pilots are certified to land at the airport, and flights are limited to a few airlines that operate smaller aircraft.
Despite its challenges, Paro Airport is a popular destination for tourists visiting Bhutan, as it provides convenient access to many of the country's most popular attractions, including ancient monasteries, stunning mountain scenery, and traditional Bhutanese culture.
To enter Bhutan via Paro Airport, visitors must obtain a visa in advance and be accompanied by a licensed guide during their stay in the country. The airport is located approximately 6 kilometers (4 miles) from the town of Paro, and visitors can reach the airport by road or by taking a domestic flight from the capital city of Thimphu.
