Anna Teresa De Keersmaeker is a Belgian choreographer. She was born on 23 June 1960 in Mechelen, Belgium.
De Keersmaeker is the founder of the contemporary dance company Rosas, which she established in Brussels in 1983. She has created more than 50 choreographic works for Rosas, which have been performed at major venues and festivals around the world.
De Keersmaeker's work is known for its use of repetition, rhythm, and gesture, as well as its exploration of relationships between movement and music. She has collaborated with a number of composers, including Steve Reich, Thierry De Mey, and Georges Aperghis.
In addition to her work with Rosas, De Keersmaeker has also taught at various dance schools and institutions around the world, including PARTS (Performing Arts Research and Training Studios) in Brussels, which she founded in 1995.
De Keersmaeker has received numerous awards and honors for her work, including the Samuel H. Scripps/American Dance Festival Award for Lifetime Achievement in Choreography, the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Biennale, and the Flemish Culture Prize for Performing Arts. She is widely regarded as one of the most important choreographers of her generation.
