Death Valley is a desert valley located in Eastern California, USA, near the border with Nevada. It is the lowest, driest, and hottest area in North America, and has an area of about 3,000 square miles (7,800 square kilometers). The valley is located within the Mojave Desert, and is known for its extreme climate, with very high temperatures during the summer months and occasional snowfall during the winter. Despite the harsh conditions, Death Valley is home to a variety of plants and animals, and is a popular destination for outdoor recreation, including hiking, camping, and scenic drives. Some notable features in the valley include Badwater Basin, the lowest point in North America at 282 feet (86 meters) below sea level, and Zabriskie Point, a popular viewpoint with colorful rock formations.
