Merdeka Square, or Dataran Merdeka, is a historic landmark in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.  It marks the site where Malaysia declared independence from British rule on August 31, 1957.  The square features one of the world's tallest flagpoles, standing at 95 meters, proudly flying the Malaysian flag.
Adjacent to the square is the iconic Sultan Abdul Samad Building, known for its Moorish architecture and the Royal Selangor Club, a colonial-era establishment.  Merdeka Square hosts Malaysia's National Day celebrations, along with various cultural events throughout the year.
Nearby attractions include the Kuala Lumpur City Gallery, St. Mary’s Cathedral and Jalan Raja.  The square's vast open lawn offers a green space for relaxation and public activities, symbolizing Malaysian independence and pride.
